ROLEPLAYING GAMES
What is roleplaying?
Some people will tell you that it's like playing in a theater, or getting together to tell a story. I'm not a storyteller, and I'm not an actor, so I call it a game. But not the usual kinda game.
It's a game where your imagination is the most important part. Not the dice you roll, or the cards you are dealt.

These pages are my notebooks. I'm going to put up my creations and thoughts, some of which are better (and more coherent) than others.

My philosophy in gaming is "let the chips fall where they may".
I won't write up a story in advance and then railroad my players through it. And I won't bail your characters out if they get in a tough spot, or if the dice is against you (unless it would really suck if you died already).
That's what the dice is for, the random element, to make it exiting.
And why do the characters have to be heroes?

Games I own: (Every one of these titles are © or ™ or ®. I've tried to get it right at the end of the page.)
Continuum - A timetraveller game. Possibly the best buy I've made. Especially since the Nice People over at Wizard's Attic mailed it to me for free! Ok, not quite. They made a little mistake (mailed me Conspiracy X instead of Continuum.) which they corrected quickly and efficently. And they were cool about it too! No grouchy "not-our-fault" speech. Thanks Fergie!
Underworld - Urban fantasy, life in the sewers and subterranean tunnels. Pretty cool, but where is the hip-hop?
SLA Industries - Cyberpunk taken a step further.
Conspiracy X - X-files: The Roleplaying Game. Not really, bur very close.
Unknown Armies - So far so good. Haven't tried it yet though.
Orkworld - I like it. It's not the kinda orks I prefer (see Warhammer 40K & "Grunts" by Mary Gentle), but it's a good book.
7th Sea - I like! Especially the magic system for Vestenmannavnjar.
Legend of the 5 Rings - Just call me a Scorpion.
D&D 3rd ed. - Not very interested in D&D so I haven't read it cover to cover yet. I'll get back to this one.
Mage: the Ascencion 4th ed. - I like the magic, but . . . I don't think so.
Ars Magica 4th ed. - Disappointed by the Ultima Thule supplement, but othervise just fine. Now I've just got to get a game going.
Warhammer 40.000 - Not roleplaying, but miniature wargame. Very fun, both painting and playing.
Elric! - No complaints, but no outstanding qualities either.
Rolemaster - WAY too many tables, but otherwise fine.
GURPS - Currently my favorite.
Cyberpunk 2020 - My first RPG, and still one of the very best.
Cybergeneration - Spin-off from CP2020.
AD&D - I hate levels and classes, but it's a classic.
Aberrant - Seems cool, haven't played it yet.
Earthdawn - Seems not so cool, but I haven't tried this one yet either.
Fudge - Has worked good so far. I'm gonna play in an online game soon, so I'll get back to this one.
Fuzion - Looks fine, haven't tried it.
The Window - A little to freeform for my tastes.
Alternate Realities - Never got past the rules. Much to complicated.

Games I've played or looked at:
Vampire: the Masquerade &
Werewolf: the Apocalypse - I like the game system and some of the setting, but I dislike the gothics.
Trinity - Future of Aberrant
Star Wars the Roleplaying Game - Fast and easy. The setting is excellent, of course.
Middel Earth Roleplaying - downscaled version of Rolemaster.
Call of Chtulhu - Horror isn't my thing. At least not when you can't shoot it with a shotgun.
Shadowrun - Cool setting, crappy rules.
Feng Shui - One drawback (which is also it's fortè): no realism.
Marvel Superheroes - How can I not like it? I'm a huge Marvel fan.

Disclaimer

There are (IMO) two different types of settings for roleplaying, science-fiction and fantasy (plus lots of variations).
I've got two gameworlds of my own, one sci-fi and one fantasy.

Mararanth - Dark fantasy, very few fireballs!
MCP - Realistic (!?) superheroes.
